Med., 1983, 139 (2), 219-220 Seven normal subjects were asked to flex the left elbow as quickly as possible, responding to a tone stimulus under three conditions: 1) during passive flexion of the elbow, 2) during passive extension and 3) without passive movements. The EMG activities in passive movements reduced significantly during first 60 to 70 msec, compared to the condition without passive movements. passive movements; ballistic movement; EMG activities; motor program

Effect of warning signal on reaction time and EMG activity of the biceps brachii muscle in elbow flexion and forearm supination.
Using a reaction time (RT) task, the biceps brachii muscle was investigated in five healthy subjects to determine whether EMG in the initial phase of activity is dependent upon the direction of movement, i.e., elbow flexion and forearm supination, and/or influenced by the presence or absence of warning signal. Results showed that in the presence of warning EMG-RT of forearm supination was faste...
متن کاملFunctional anatomical studies of the elbow movements. I. Electromyographic (EMG) analysis.
Activities of the elbow flexors and extensors during the movement of the elbow flexion and extension were analyzed in six normal human volunteers by electromyography (EMG). In the flexors, the majority of the muscles showed EMG activities during both the flexion and extension phases, although patterns and amplitudes of EMG activities varied from individual to individual. The biceps brachii alwa...
متن کاملEvaluation of Elbow Stretch Reflex Using a Portable Hand-driven Isokinetic System in Normal Adults
OBJECTIVE To evaluate normal healthy persons without spasticity to observe normal findings of the elbow stretch reflex using a newly developed, portable, hand-driven spasticity-measuring system. METHOD Thirty normal persons without any disease involving the central or peripheral nervous system were enrolled in this study. The portable hand-driven isokinetic system is able to measure the joint...
متن کاملAnalysis of stereotyped voluntary movements at the elbow in patients with Parkinson's disease.
Patients with Parkinson's disease performed several different stereotyped elbow flexion tasks, and the electromyographic (EMG) patterns from biceps and triceps were compared with previously established normal standards. The EMG pattern during a smooth flexion task was almost always abnormal and was characterized by alternating activity in biceps and triceps. The EMG patterns during a fast flexi...
متن کاملMuscular coordination of biceps brachii and brachioradialis in elbow flexion with respect to hand position
Contribution of synergistic muscles toward specific movements over multi joint systems may change with varying position of distal or proximal joints. Purpose of this study is to reveal the relationship of muscular coordination of brachioradialis and biceps brachii during elbow flexion with respect to hand position and biomechanical advantages and disadvantages of biceps brachii. A group of 16 h...
